This post remains open, however, for you to link fills or express your excitement over prompts you would like to see filled.

Joe/Nicky, actual cats, Crusader era fluff

Inspired by the amazing prompt above of Joe being like “he’s pretty even for a feral garbage cat,” because if that’s not a painfully accurate description of their first non-enemy opinion, I don’t know what is.


So cats are actually admired for their cleanliness in Islam (according to the Google, PLEASE someone correct me if I’m wrong) and are allowed into homes and even mosques.


Yusuf is something of a community pet in one of the Muslim cities sacked by the invaders. Prior to the city being attacked, everyone kind of knew of this sweet, fluffy cat that was always rubbing against the legs of the market vendors or playing with children or even going to the Mosque and sleeping in a little basket right outside the mosque in an archway or something because the whole community loves this precious cuddlebug of a cat.


Then the invaders come and awful things happen to the city and its residents. A small portion survive and are trying to recover in the ruins of their home which basically became a battlefield.


Yusuf comforts the children, sits with dying soldiers, even sniffs out herbs for the medicine men. Just generally being his little community cornerstone self.


Then he finds this skinny, hissing, possibly injured feral garbage cat who’s missing half his fur and and Yusuf is one of those brilliant but really dumb cats with zero self preservation and is like “feral garbage kitty is my new project/best friend” and Nicolo had been the precious pet of a crusader who had been dead for weeks and because he is thousands of miles from home, lost his human, and is in survival mode, he’s kind of traumatized and jumpy, irritable.


But Yusuf treats him like gold because that’s who Yusuf is and Nicolo eventually starts to shyly follow him and gets used to all these strangers being gentle and kind and to him and the little village that rises from the ashes now has two adorable community cats who always sleep all curled up together in an archway near the mosque.


Sorry for this being weird as fuck but it would not get out of my head.
