Either of them loses their immortality. Someone finds this old ritual to bond life forces together/grant immortality/prolong life. They don’t have confirmation that it ever worked, but they do have a couple of ingredients that are hard to come by, like the semen of an immortal, or the blood of a thousand slain enemies (or something else, go wild!)

+ the more complicated the ritual the better ++ if there’s a public sex element to it, with other people baring witness +++ if there’s an altar involved to collect the blood and/or semen +++ equally into a bowl to collect and them drinking/sharing ++++ both of them being completely swept away by the ritual (which can involve aphrodisiacs/sex pollen/heat like symptoms/sex magic, or just them being into it…) and ending up in a fucking frenzy
I prefer the ritual to work and neither of them to die permanently, but I’m not opposed to temporary death (before or during the ritual) and temporary mortality to increase the stakes.
