Nicky is some kind of love deity or working in the service of a love deity. He’s crossed paths with mortal!Joe and they do not care for each other. Maybe Joe railed against the gods determining love. Maybe he’s aligned with a different deity and Nicky is jealous. Whatever it is, Joe just gets under his skin.
Then one day Nicky is sent to fire an arrow of love at Joe. And he’s so distracted by how much Joe’s stupid handsome face annoys him that his fingers slip and he scratches himself with his own love arrow. While looking directly at Joe. Now he’s BOTH irritated by Joe and also madly in love with him. Poor Joe has absolutely no idea what’s going on, but a love deity (or love deity adjacent being) can be VERY attractive when they want to be.
Also OK with Joe and Nicky’s roles being reversed.
