When Nicky first had his job interview at the company, he thought "huh, this interviewer is kind of cute." A year of working under Joe al-Kaysani has done absolutely nothing to dampen that. Quite the opposite, he's only fallen more and more hopelessly in love with Joe, who is a total dream boss: he's kind, he doesn't play games, he'll (nicely) kick your ass if you're slacking off, and he's fiercely protective of his reports. And he's funny and approachable and of course, hot as hell.
It's exactly because he's so great that Nicky wouldn't dare jeopardize their careers by making a move. But his feelings are getting stronger and stronger and he's doing a terrible job of hiding them. Little does he know that Joe is similarly besotted with his star employee, but he's very aware of how inappropriate it is to make a move on a direct report. Eventually, though, something has to give.
