Joe and Booker are captured by a sadist who thinks that immortals make for great entertainment. They're given the choice to either perform for their captor's pleasure, or be tortured to death over and over. Joe knows that Nicky and the others are coming for them, and chooses the lesser of the two evils.
Bonus: This all takes place after the movie, meaning that Joe is even more angry and conflicted.
