So... I was in the bathtub again and apparently I always have good ideas there :D
I just thought, that maybe, when Joe and Nicky met they didn't speak a common language. They could help themselves with Greek but both of them couldn't speak it very well. So they had to try to find a common language and for Joe it was easier to learn Italian than for Nicky to learn Arabic.
Then they met Andy and Quynh and the two of them didn't speak Italian. But they knew Latin and it's not that far from Latin to Italian and so very soon all four of them spoke Italian.
And when they met Booker the French easily switched to Italian, too...
So... Italian became their natural language.
Insert Nile: Nile is American. She never learned a second language (yes, yes, prejudices, I know) and only knows a few phrases in Arabic to get along. Sure, the team knows English but the moment Nile is not there they switch back to Italian and they just don't realize they do it because it's so natural to them. And sometimes Nile feels just left out...
+ Nile asks Nicky to teach her Italian + Nile speaking the Italian she learned and finds out it's a very old fashioned Italian + Nicky teaching her all the "interesting" curses and swearwords and Nile blushes :D + Nile is actually very talented and she wants to learn more languages
Team & Nile - The team speaks Italian, Nile does not
