During his exile Booker starts spiralling, self-punishing himself by participating in more and more riské and degrading sexual practices.

Eventually he ends up getting fucked by a dog, in front of the audience, an experience that in his mind should be the most degrading thing that could ever happened to him - therefore the most fitting punishment - but he ends up loving it. The praise/humiliation the audience heaps in him (calling him a perfect little bitch, a natural at taking the knot etc) only adds to the pleasure.
