Doesn’t have to follow the plot of the film exactly but basically: Nicky comes from a rich influential family, Joe works for them as a chauffeur. He and Nicky are wildly in love but because of class and period typical homophobia they can’t be together and have to sneak around. One night during a dinner party Nicky’s younger sister catches them having sex (exactly like in the movie 😉). Maybe she herself is in love with Joe or is just disgusted, and she accuses Joe of raping Nicky in retaliation. Or maybe she accuses him of raping another dinner guest that night (who was actually sexually assaulted, but by someone else). Whatever the case Joe is sent to the army as punishment, Nicky is heartbroken and cuts off all communication with his family to become a nurse on the frontlines in the hopes of reuniting with Joe.

Up to you but I would LOVEEE a happy ending! And of course the iconic line, “come back to me.”
