Joe and Nicky are part of the same friend group, have been best friends for years. They are each 100% convinced the other only sees it as a friendship. Even though they’re way closer than any other two in their friend group, even though they always seem to irrationally hate each other’s boyfriends, even though they get incredibly depressed if they are separated for too long. Totally, 100% just really good pals.
Then one day Joe is reading his regular relationship advice column/subreddit/whatever. Some poor guy has written just pouring out his heart about how he’s been desperately in love with his best friend for years, and it’s breaking his heart to watch him date other people, but the best friend is just so sweet and gorgeous and muscular and poetic and just generally perfect, how could he possibly be interested in me??? And the anonymous guy mentions one detail/situation that seems oddly familiar, and Joe just KNOWS it’s Nicky. And suddenly he’s looking at his best “friend” in a whole new way...
