Nicky gets sexually assaulted by one of the guards while in the lab but nobody knows about it. They kill the man responsible during the escape anyway. Up to the writer how bad the assault was.
Nicky doesn’t say a word of it to anyone, especially Joe, decides to deal with it by himself. He makes a slow recovery but then the team decides to re-admit Booker believing that they need to be there for him. Nicky is against it because seeing Booker is triggering to him but the rest outvotes him. He gets into fights with Joe over it but is scared to lose him, so eventually gives up.
Heavy angst with Bookers presence actively hindering Nicky’s recovery. For example, constantly hearing how it was their fault that Booker betrayed them, makes Nicky believe that his assault was his own fault. (Maybe even as far as starting to believe it was an actual punishment from God for failing Booker) Or Nicky freaking out during a mission thinking that Booker betrayed them again is seen as him endangering the mission on purpose, to undermine Booker, so now Nicky thinks he’s a liability to the team.
His behaviour is seen as him being stubborn and unforgiving.
Bonus: - Joe was in contact with Booker behind Nicky’s back - Joe makes a speech or two about how disappointed he is in Nicky - someone making comments re: forgiveness in context of Nicky’s religious believes (ie: God would want you to forgive, I thought Catholics believe in forgiveness, you’re only religious when it suits you etc)
No team bashing. They have no idea what happened, don’t even suspect, believe that helping Booker’s recovery is their duty and Nicky is just being a stubborn ass the hi need to get over himself
